I was just curious about the differences in your XC spike selection. I run 4-5 XC races/year, but want to start doing more workouts on grass to try to prep for the USATF club championships.
I have a pair of Nike XC Waffle Racers that were given to me, by a buddy. They are the silver, red & yellow ones that they made without a spike plate. They are ok, but I think that I would like something else. Also...how is the sizing on them? I wear a 12 in most trainers, but my Nike spikes, and Marathoners are a 12-1/2.
Thanks....

The shoes you got from a buddy are solid and they are actually more supportive than many of the others. In most cases, they amount to little more than slippers with nails in the forefoot, which is the point - light and fast w/ plenty of traction. Be careful training in these as they have very little in the way of heel lift which puts additional strain on your achilles. Best to start doing a few strides, then gradually adapt to the,. Heading out for mile reps right off the bat is a recipe for disaster, particularly for masters age runners. Sizing is generally a 1/2 smaller than your trainers.

Let me know if you have additional questions.
